Learning on the Job

The female white spotted bamboo shark has thicker skin than the male

Recalling facts on the fly about four fish
Tidbits of information I may have heard
Or vaguely read as I studied for this job
Its nerve racking until I turn unknowns
Into intelligent questions and ask
Because I want to learn their ranges
Which one can be found in rivers
How large a rare ray once grew
To impress my friends and patrons
And acknowledge every opportunity
Is another avenue for learning
Learning that may take hours studying
Whoever said school skills were useless?
