I’m Going to Miss Wearing Sandals All Summer

Sunshine bakes my back slightly less white
Bares skin soaks in vitamin D, sleepy happiness
I relish the moments where sweat drips down
Pooling in crevices, in the curve behind my knee
Knowing all this skin will be covered soon
Long pants keeping thighs to ankles covered
Toes closed in, no free wiggling in flip flop
Or barefoot running on the beach
Laughing with dogs tied to waist
I will be in sneakers on concrete
Laughing with insanity when experiments fail
Or I’m on campus for twelve hours straight
The sleepy I feel is tedium or long work
Sunshine I glimpsed through too few windows
