Give Me a Potted Plant

Give me a potted flower
For cut roses begin to die
Once removed from their stem
Despite the watered vases
They shrivel up into remains
That easily crumble at the touch

Give me a potted plant
For plastic is synthetic, manmade
And false, if you think about it;
An image of beautiful life
Imitation derived from oil
Manufactured, never nurtured

Give me a potted perennial
For they are filled with life
Green vibrant leaves, colorful
Blossoms in spring, steady foliage
Renewing what was there
Continually growing, year after year
